Armed ZANU PF Supporters Invade Mugabe's Farm

A number of suspected Zanu PF supporters, one of them armed with a gun, this Saturday invaded a farm belonging to former president Robert Mugabe on the outskirts of Harare.

The Standard reports that the invaders, who were wearing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 2018 election campaign t-shirts, started trooping in at around 3 pm at Pomona Farm near the Pomona army barracks.

Workers at the farm told the publication that the invaders set up barricades at the farm entrance where they searched cars and people who were getting in or out of the farm.

The development comes merely a week after Mnangagwa hinted at a Zanu PF rally in Kadoma that the government will take some of the multiple farms owned by the Mugabe family in line with the government’s one-man one-farm policy.

Meanwhile, the ongoing land audit is reported to have unearthed several irregularities in the land redistribution programme as prominent people in business and politics were awarded more than one farm.

Some of the beneficiaries have however registered the farm in the names of proxies to outmanoeuvre the audit.

Large pieces of land lie idle as owners lack the capacity to utilise it.
