"Dear MDC, Voters Want IDEAS Not SLOGANS," Hopewell Chin'ono

A prominent Zimbabwean journalist and documentary filmmaker, Hopewell Chin’ono has urged the opposition MDC against sloganeering saying that the approach will not win the hearts of the electorate.

Posting on Twitter, Chin’ono said that the party needed to be innovative and come up with solutions to contemporary issues. He said:

Dear MDC Leaders &Supporters.
There are MORE voters who don’t belong to both MDC & ZANU-PF.
They don’t want to hear Chete-Chete!
They want to hear IDEAS, program of action, plans for getting this country OUT of this mess & NOT slogans.
Talk about Healthcare, Jobs, Food & LEADERSHIP

His remarks come when the MDC has since 2018 lost most of the by-elections which were held nationwide with party officials blaming the “uneven play ground”.

The party cites vote-buying and voter intimidation as some of the reasons why it has been performing dismally in the by-elections and has vowed not to participate in the 2023 elections if the current leadership at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is still in office.
