Temba Mliswa Calms MPs After Tempers Flare Over ‘Legitimacy’

Independent legislator, Temba Mliswa had to play the role of peacemaker in Parliament on Friday after ZANU PF and MDC MPs traded insults during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting.

Chegutu West MP (Dexter Nduna) disrupted the meeting that was being chaired by MDC vice president Tendai Biti resulting in accusations of bribery and stage-managing shootings being thrown around between Nduna and Marondera Central MP – Caston Mateu (MDC Alliance). As a mediator, Mliswa said:

Members, it is important that we speak to the Speaker and the Clerk of Parliament so that we get a way forward.

Remember the damage you are causing now to your reputation will be difficult to repair. There are members of the Fourth Estate (journalists) in here.

PAC had convened to hear oral evidence from government-contracted inputs and equipment companies on Command Agriculture programmes.

However, Nduna disrupted the meeting, questioning Biti’s legitimacy in chairing the PAC following the MDC Alliance’s refusal to recognise President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
