The government will now seize imported goods at entry points if the owners fail to declare their source of foreign currency.
The measure has been adopted in a move to combat the parallel market activities, a government official has said.
Clemence Chiduwa, Finance and Economic Development Deputy Minister, said that the government was now working on mechanisms to implement the policy.
He said that the policy would encourage people to use their Nostro accounts in commercial banks.
The present government should swallow their pride and seek advice from capable individuals in the opposition. We are going nowhere as long as things are being taken from a political stance. Targeting people who are trying to survive out of their own creativity will not solve the government’s financial problems. There is no way money is going to flow into government coffers because the government has brought in restrictions to people’s trading patterns. It will actually make the problem worse. Multi-currency regime and open market is Zimbabwe’s answer to its economic problems at the moment.
