Chief Ndiweni's Brother Claims To Be The Rightful Heir

The Matabeleland North Provincial Chiefs Assembly met in Bulawayo on Saturday and resolved that the appointment of the Ntabazinduna chief should be redone.

According to the chiefs, a brother of Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, Joram Khayisa Thambo, is challenging the incumbent’s claim to chieftaincy, saying that he is the rightful heir.

The deputy president of the Chiefs Council, Chief Mtshane Khumalo said:

We sat this Saturday and made a recommendation to the family that the process must be redone. It’s a process that must first be ratified by the Zimbabwe Council of Chiefs and the Chiefs Council will make a resolution.

He is still the chief, we made a recommendation and the National Chiefs Council may amend it, add or subtract.

In 2014, Joram, who is based in the United Kingdom, filed an application at the High Court in Bulawayo seeking to block his brother Nhlanhla from being installed as substantive chief.

In his court application, Joram claimed to be the rightful heir as Nguni custom, practice and norms stipulate that the eldest son of a deceased chief takes over the throne.

Chief Khayisa Ndiweni died in October 2010, with one of his sons, Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni taking over.
