Govt Fires 77 Striking Doctors, More Set To Be Axed

The government fired another 75 doctors this week, bringing the total number of doctors that have been dismissed so far to 286.

This was revealed by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa during a post-cabinet media briefing in Harare Tuesday. She said:

A total of 322 disciplinary cases have so far been heard and 286 doctors were found guilty and have been discharged.

… This week a total of 75 doctors were dismissed.

More doctors are in the line of fire as 93 doctors from central hospitals will have their disciplinary hearings concluded by November 15, while 55 from provincial hospitals will have their disciplinary hearings concluded by 27 November 2019.

Mutsvangwa, however, insisted that the government is still committed to dialogue with the striking doctors and will hold a meeting with them on 14 November 2019.

  1. If they cared about us they wouldn’t fire the doctors who treat us. They can afford to go to South Africa, Singapore, and China of all places. Leaders from these countries make sure their doctors are paid well. At some point, doctors in Canada refused salary increments. This is the leadership some people still vote for and wonder why.
