Sakunda Boss Fails To Appear Before Parliament, Asks For Questions In Writing

Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, Tendai Biti, said he was disappointed by Sakunda Holdings owner, Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s failure to appear before the Committee on Monday.

Biti revealed Sakunda Holdings officials had been informed that they were supposed to come to Parliament only for the Committee to be told that Tagwirei had travelled out of the country. Said Biti:

They knew that we had summoned them to this committee this morning. A few minutes ago, we received a letter dated 7th of November, 2019 addressed to Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda signed by Sakunda’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mberikwazvo C. Chitambo advising us that their CEO K.R. Tagwirei was out of the country and asked for a rescheduling of the meeting.

Tagwirei wrote a letter to Clerk of Parliament, Kennedy Chokuda informing him that he would appear before the Committee later this week when he returns home. Tagwirei asked for the Committee to send questions in writing so that the rescheduled meeting will be “shorter, less time consuming and more productive.”

The Committee wants Tagwirei to give an explanation on the circumstances under which his company accessed US$1 billion treasury bills from government.
