"President Mnangagwa 'Grooming' A Younger Successor"

Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting, Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana, said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa believes that a young leader should succeed him.

Mangwana made the remarks on microblogging site Twitter on Saturday afternoon. He wrote:

President Mnangagwa believes that the next President leadership of Zimbabwe should be younger in age compared to the leadership the country has had so far.

It is with this in mind that he has taken the bold step of infusing young leadership in the government as deputies to learn the ropes.

President Mnangagwa became head of State in 2017 while he was in his mid-seventies following a military-instigated popular coup that toppled long-time ruler, the late Robert Mugabe.

Mugabe ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years until the coup when he was past 90 years of age. All of Mugabe’s deputies died in office, (apart from Mnangagwa and Joyce Mujuru who were sacked at the height of ZANU PF factionalism).
