10-member Cartel Behind Unjustified Price Hikes: Mudenda

Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda said that there is a cartel of 10 people causing the incessant price increases, and demanded that the cartel should be sent to prison.

Mudenda made the remarks while giving a keynote address at the 2019 Pre-Budget Seminar which opened in Victoria Falls on Thursday. He said:

There is a cartel of 10 people according to the Reserve Bank Governor and I want to say its (cartel) best place is either at Chikurubi or Khami Maximum prisons. We can’t afford to have price hikes every day.

While some commentators have blamed the parlous state of the economy on policy inconsistency and lack of political will to fight corruption, the government has been blaming hidden forces which Mudenda did not identify by name.
