A' Level Student To Write ZIMSEC Exams From Prison

A Mandava High School upper six pupil, Tamuka Chekai Hove (19), will have to write his final ZIMSEC exams from prison after Zvishavane magistrate Achy Wochiunga refused to grant him bail pending an appeal to allow him to sit for the exams from home.

Wochiunga rejected the application, arguing that their High Court application’s chances of success were next to zero and the sentence was fair. Said the magistrate:

Robbery is a serious offence and prospects for success of an appeal are next to zero. Robbery invariably attracts a prison sentence.

Chekai Hove was sentenced to three years in jail together with three accomplices, Stanly Zhou (26), Luckman Nyathi (21) and Steward Kabango (18) for robbery.

The four stoned Christopher Nsingo (48) on the head before robbing him of cash amounting to $570 and US$2 and cellphones on Monday night.
