The Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda is turning out to be the worst Speaker of Parliament in the history of Zimbabwe.
This was said by a constitutional law expert, Alex Magaisa, who was responding to a report by The Herald which said that Mudenda has barred MDC Alliance members from directing questions to cabinet ministers in Parliament since they do not recognise the appointing authority, President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Writing on Twitter, Magaisa said:
Jacob Mudenda is turning out to be the worst Speaker of Parliament in Zimbabwe. He not only has delusions of grandeur but he also misunderstands his mandate. Maybe he is seeing how powerful the Speaker of the Westminster Parliament is and imagines he has similar powers. He doesn’t.
He doesn’t know that our Speaker is strictly a creature of the law, as provided in the Constitution, whereas the Westminster Speaker also draws on Conventions, some of which are only being invoked after decades of never being used. He can’t ban MPs from performing their role.

Indeed, this Magaisa guy is not a law expert at all! He is an expert at nothing! He ran away from the MDC after ill-advising the late Tsvangirayi during GNU and towards the 2013 elections! He is like Prof Jonathan Moyo – always claiming to know everything! The MDC A should be wary of some of their sympathisers – they are bent on causing confusion to the party leadership! It’s now time for real home-grown solutions, not advice from mercenaries like the Magaisas of this world!
