Police 'Not Sure' Who Arrested Human Rights Activist

Police have told an activist who was arrested in May at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport that they do not know who arrested her after she requested for her passport so that she could travel outside the country.

Sithabile Dewa, the director of the Women’s Academy for leadership and Political Excellence (WALPE), told NewZimbabwe.com that police are claiming that they do not have her passport in their records. She said:

The people who arrested us seized our passports. Right now I want to travel outside the country. I tried to get my passport from the police and only to be told that they do not have my passport in their records.

Dewa was among a group of activists who were arrested on May 28 this year on arrival at the Airport. They were returning from a workshop in the Maldives and police alleged that they were being trained on how to overthrow the government.
