Zimbabwe Begs International Netball Federation To Postpone Gems Match

Zimbabwe Netball Association (Zina) president, Leticia Chipandu has appealed to the International Netball Federation to reschedule Zimbabwe Gems’ Africa Netball Cup 8pm opening match against Uganda as the team will only arrive in Cape Town at 9pm.

Zimbabwe was supposed to take on Uganda at 8 am Friday and the match was postponed to 8 pm to accommodate the financially troubled southern African team.

ZINA spokesperson, Maimba Mauranga revealed this Thursday that the Gems are expected to arrive in Cape Town around 9 pm after they departed on Friday at 11 am on Air Zimbabwe to Johannesburg where they will connect to Cape Town. Mapuranga added:

The Zimbabwe Netball Association president Mrs Chipandu has made the African Netball Association aware of this and consequently The Zimbabwe vs Uganda game has been rescheduled to the last game for both teams in the tournament.

Ironically, Netball South Africa released a statement Friday morning alerting the Zimbabwe Gems will be playing Uganda at 8pm Friday night in Cape Town putting paid to Zina claims.

The trip could have been called off were it not of the National Foods who donated Z$250 000 (about US$15,000) for flights, kits, bags, and upkeep of team members.

  1. Why didn’t Ed charter a plan for our ladies who did the country proud at the Netball World Cup?

You see how selfish Zanu pf is!

A plane was chartered for Grace Mugabe this other time so that she attends a funeral but we know that she is reach and could have made her own arrangements to come bury her mom. I cry for you my beloved country.

Why couldn’t our ladies arrive even a week before in order for them to have enough time to adequately climatize?

I guess it’s because they are not important?
Or it’s just a bunch of women who are not a priority to Zanu pf?

Who will inspire the younger generation if can’t show respect and treat women with dignity?

Reminds me of Kembo’s treatment of Tambudzeni, can’t expect them to be kind to our women and girls.

Funds are efficiently raised for other less important things. On short notice Zanu can raise any amount of funds for anything that they want done. Why can’t you do the same for a good cause to show your human side?

Mr Mtuli Ncube couldn’t you assist as minister of finance? I hear that you are very rich.

Couldn’t the president make a personal donation for this good cause?

Didn’t the first lady hear about the challenges facing our national netball team so that she could have helped?

Mrs Nyoni come on this shouldn’t be happening under your watch.

    Crying out loud
