President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned businesses following several months of unrestrained wanton unjustified price hikes, saying the government will now take action against them.
Addressing the first edition of the Rural District Councillors Meeting on Thursday, President Mnangagwa said:
Wherever I am going these days, people are complaining about the ever-increasing prices of basic commodities, saying you promised to whip such business into line. So where is that whip?
… I think we have reached a point where action has to be taken because we don’t see any reason why there is this continuous rise in prices.
Mnangagwa said that a meeting was being organised by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to be held next week between the Government and business.
The meeting will give the government an opportunity to appreciate the challenges being faced by business, he said.
