Govt Directs Harare City Council To Buy Water Treatment Chemicals Through Chemplex

The government has directed Harare City Council and other municipalities across the country to use Chemplex in the importation of water treatment chemicals.

The directive was issued by Local Government Minister July Moyo while touring Morton Jaffray Water Works with Harare City Council officials recently. Said Moyo:

Harare uses nine chemicals and all the other chemicals in other local authorities should only be imported through Chemplex.

So, the Reserve Bank has been ordered to have Chemplex as the number one institution that will order the requirements needed by all the councils and Zinwa.

Moyo also directed Harare City Council to reduce the number of chemicals it uses in water treatment from the current 9 to just 4.

In September this year, Harare briefly halted the production of water for residents at the Morton Jaffray waterworks due to a shortage of water treatment chemicals some of which have to be imported.
