Team Pachedu, an opposition political activism online group has brought to remembrance the tactics that the state uses to bring blame onto its opponents. The group posted on Twitter some events that triggered Gukurahundi saying:
In 1982, months before Gukurahundi, arms caches were discovered on ZAPU-linked Ascot Farm. Mnangagwa told a press conference that a plot to overthrow the GVT by ZAPU had been uncovered. Dabengwa was arrested, the GVT took over ZAPU assets and then a genocide followed.
The above remarks got some observers thinking that the police helmets which were reportedly discovered in a basement office at Robinson House, Harare are a mere smokescreen by the government to justify its intended crackdown on the opposition MDC.
The discovery of the helmets comes when the MDC has announced intentions to embark on nationwide demonstrations over the deteriorating state of affairs.
Replying to Team Pachedu’s post, some observers argued that the ruling party was using the same obsolete, old playbook. One social media user, Casa Joya said:
They know how to sow their seeds and tender them. Very soon it will be another Gukurahundi, surprise surprise @edmnangagwa the master of death is the one running the show again.

Team Pachedu has to be reminded that up to now, no one has explained the dissident phenomenon soon after the ‘discovery’ of arms caches at Zapu and Zipra owned farms. No one has also explained the rationale behind the MDC A’s mixed reckless statements about overthrowing an elected government. People should not just flow with the tide – they should think before joining the bandwagon!
So you support the butchering of innocent people even pregnant women?
What did rape of innocent women had to do with the arms caches?
Women were raped in recent violent and ruthless brutal crack down by the very same Zanu government.
Mhofu you are on sick puppy for a start there has never been a fair election in Zimbabwe with zanu murdering scum at the helm
The mdc is the voice of reason in the black hole that has become zimbabwe ruins all over again
