Government, Civil Servants To Enter Into 2019 Bonus Talks - Report

The Civil Servants negotiating arm will enter into 2019 bonus negotiations with the government Sunday News reports. While treasury has assured civil servants that bonuses will be paid in November, Apex Council secretary said they were, mainly concerned about a salary review for now.

Apex Council President also echoed her secretary’s sentiments and said while the bonus issue was important, the government could not ignore the prevailing economic situation:

Figures and percentages don’t matter anymore in this runaway economy, what is needed is to come up with a mechanism to ensure self-correction of salaries. Something like pegging the salary at a US figure and ensure that every month end the Government simply converts that at the interbank rate.

Civil servants have been asking for a salary review for some time now with ARTUZ threatening to start a strike tomorrow.
