Civil Servants Urge Govt To Raise Salaries First, Then Award Them Bonuses
The Apex Council says this not the time to discuss bonuses for civil servants as the issue of salaries need to be addressed first.
Apex Council president Cecilia Alexander stated that government employees are not interested in figures and percentages but to have salaries pegged in US dollars and the same to be converted at the end of the month at the interbank rate. She said:
Figures and percentages don’t matter anymore in this runaway economy, what is needed is to come up with a mechanism to ensure the self-correction of salaries.
FeedbackSomething like pegging the salary at a US figure and ensure that every month end the Government simply converts that at the interbank rate.
Alexander said that even if the government awards its workers bonuses next month, it will not be enough as the prevailing salaries are too low.
