"Transport Situation Has Turned Dire As Kombis Hike Fares, ZUPCO Overwhelmed" - Passengers

The transport situation in the country has become terrible particularly since Monday following the review of fuel prices by the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority.

Commuter Omnibus Operators, known as Kombis locally, are reportedly charging between $5 and $20 for distances they used to charge $0.5 before the inflation.

Passengers are now resorting to boarding the highly incentivised ZUPCO buses which are now reported to be overwhelmed by demand. Speaking to ZBC News, passengers appealed to authorities to add more buses. One passenger said:

The transport situation has turned dire as kombis have hiked fares to between ZWL $10 and twenty dollars to and from work.

The other commuter in Harare CBD lamented over the time spent in elongated queues. The passenger said:

Latest Tecno Pop 8 - now available in Pindula.

$94, Cash on Delivery in Harare & Bulawayo.

WhatsApp: 0783 450 793

Its 11 o’clock now and I joined this queue in the morning but up to now I am yet to board the ZUPCO to go to work. The buses are being overwhelmed to say the truth because they are the cheap one.

Fuel prices have an impact on bus fares and the prices of other commodities. Fear abound considering that ZERA announced that they will likely be increasing fuel prices on a weekly basis.

ZUPCO charges $1 and $2 for local trips.
