Concern Raised Over 'Counterfeit' Chinese Solar Panels

With the ongoing power shortages in the country, there has been high demand for solar panels by both businesses and individuals to produce renewable energy.

It has, however, been revealed that some of the solar panels are cheap counterfeits made in China with negative consequences for consumers. In an interview with Epoch Times, an energy expert, Tawanda Chitiyo said:

Like all manufactured goods, solar panels and other solar energy system components degrade and gradually generate less electricity over time. But the rate of failure of Chinese solar panels is now a great concern.

There are no industry-wide figures about defective solar panels; no one is sure how pervasive the problem is.

The average consumer cannot tell the difference between a genuine solar panel and a counterfeit one.
