Doctors' Strike Leave Patients "Gathering In Pain" In Public Hospitals - Report

The ongoing doctor’s strike has left most Zimbabweans who can’t afford to go to private hospitals clustered, in pain, in public hospitals where reports of pregnant women dying amid other reports are flying around, Relief Web reports. The publication spoke to other patients who had this to say:

“I was advised to go and seek treatment from private clinics or surgeons. But how do I raise the money?…. there is no help. We are just gathering here in pain, in shame and in agony.

We know that something terrible is happening. We are hearing of pregnant women dying, victims of road traffic accidents dying.

No doctors are coming to see patients, The patients are stranded and are not receiving help because there are no doctors to write prescriptions.

Doctors strike was intensified by the abduction of a doctor’s union leader Dr Peter Magombeyi who was then found around 40kms north of Harare. Doctors have been on strike since those days and they are demanding that the government match what they used to earn before the current economic crisis.
