Reigning UEFA Champions League champions, Liverpool were made to sweat for three points after a spirited comeback from Red Bull Salzburg in a 4-3 thriller at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Liverpool got their goals through Sadio Mane (9), Andrew Robertson (25), Mohamed Salah (36, 69), while Salzburg scored through Hee-Chang Hwang (39), Takumi Minamino (56), and Erling Braut Haaland (60). Speaking after the match, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had this to say:
We showed character. I was not surprised about that, which is why I was not overly concerned at 3-3 because I knew we would have chances again.
Liverpool lost in their first group game this season, a 2-0 loss to Napoli. In the other Group E match played earlier on Wednesday, Genk and Napoli drew 0-0.
