POTRAZ Warns Telecoms Infrastructure Thieves

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) urged communities to help in protecting telecommunications infrastructure from vandalism.

Addressing stakeholders in Rutenga, Masvingo, during a recent consumer awareness campaign, POTRAZ consumer affairs manager Phibion Chaibva called on the locals to report vandals to police. He said:

We want to warn those perpetrators to desist from such acts. We all need to take action and ensure that we protect the equipment.

Chaibva revealed that the vandals target fuel, batteries and solar panels resulting in network disruption.

He added that POTRAZ was lobbying for stiffer penalties for thieves who vandalise or tamper with telecommunications infrastructure.
