Bonne Admits To 'Not Being Up To Speed With The Championship'

Warriors and English Championship club Charlton Athletic striker, Macauley Bonne, scored his first league goal on Saturday after manager Lee Bowyer thrust him into the team following Lyle Taylor’s injury.

Bonne told London News Online after the match that he was grateful that the manager put faith in him. He said:

He [Bowyer] could’ve put any other attacker in there today and he chose me.

I’m grateful for that and hopefully, I’ve shown him what I can do. I never expected to go straight in. I’m still not up to speed with the Championship.

I’m doing my extras and what I can in training so that when I am called upon, like today, I can produce.

It was off the back of the shoulder but that’s what I’ve been brought in to do – score goals.

Bonne moved to the Addicks for an undisclosed fee from Leyton Orient this summer and his goal proved the match-winner in a 1-0 win over Leeds United.
