ED Congratulates Israel On Jewish New Year

Jewish religious communities around the world will from the evening of Sunday 29 September to Tuesday 1 October celebrate the festival of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

Rosh Hashanah is a joyous occasion celebrated by members of the religious community all over the world.

Among the activities carried out during the festival, the Jewish people hold prayer services in synagogues and blow an ancient musical horn called a “shofar“, which is made from a ram’s horn.

Various delicious, sweet foods are eaten by the Jewish people throughout the festival. These include apple and honey, a traditional combination that has passed down the generations for centuries, pomegranate, Kiddush wine and honey cake, among others.

During Rosh Hashanah, Jewish people will frequently say the Hebrew phrases: “Shana Tova” or “Shana Tova U’Metukah” to one another, meaning: “A good year” or “A good and sweet year.”

Wishing our Jewish friends around the world, a happy new year. I was happy to talk with Israeli Foreign Minister @Israel_katz ahead of my speech to the UNGA.

We are working towards cooperative and friendly relations with all the nations of the world, for the benefit of our people.
