December 12th Movement, a non-governmental organization (NGO) which is renowned for fighting for civil rights and supporting Africa’s liberation movements, particularly the ruling Zanu PF, clashed with members of the opposition MDC in New York.
Members of the Movement were demonstrating at the United Nations demanding that sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by Western states be removed.
MDC members were at the same time demonstrating against the dwindling democratic space in the country following a spree of kidnappings and torture of government critics.
The two sides clashed and in the video below, members of the December 12th Movement are seen retreating as MDC members kept on charging.
Freeman Chari, a Zimbabwean activist and technology entrepreneur based in the USA who is also a prominent member of the MDC in the diaspora says that members of the December 12th Movement first marched towards MDC supporters who were unfazed.
The development comes when Zimbabwe is trying to re-engage the international community which left it isolated at the turn of the millennium over alleged human rights abuses.

Demo done at the UN. Was just too busy to update. Great turnout. The paid trolls from Harlem the December 12 marched to us and we took our stand. They were defeated and overwhelmed. The resolve of those fighting for freedom dwarfs that of burger beggars! Thanks to all who came pic.twitter.com/3JhkPWWWpz
