The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) has encouraged its customers to buy tap cards for their convenience when boarding buses.
ZUPCO acting chief executive, Everisto Madangwa on Thursday revealed that the parastatal will soon establish several kiosks where passengers can buy the tap cards. He said:
The kiosks where people will be buying the tap cards from are to be set at major pick up points like Market Square. Copacabana and Simon Muzenda Termini in Harare.
The kiosks are expected to be in operation beginning next week and Zupco officials will be assisting the public at the points.
We are encouraging people to buy tap cards as it is convenient for everyone. We want to promote a cashless society.
However, some passengers said that the requirement to buy tap cards is discriminatory as they do not have the cash to do so.
Tap cards are loaded with a minimum amount of $5 while short route fares are pegged at $0.50.
we have already bought what you call tapcards but seems they are useless because there is no enough buses, No Buses we always wait for hours waiting one bus which at times don’t even come. Its disgusting
I concur with Francis. More buses are needed than that technology which hasn’t improved the service. Management kindly assess area that are falling short of improvement. There is a need of reviving out of harare depots for refueling and workshop services. Inspectors at respective puck up points /termini. Hwindis have taken over that service and just for rent seeking behavior and they practice no customer care at all and the donty have correct information on scheduling of the day. Kindly step in.
