POLAD Interlocutor, Violet Mariyacha Expelled From UDM Party

Opposition United Democracy Movement (UDM) party has expelled its presidential candidate in the 2018 elections, Violet Mariyacha.

The party accused her of abandoning the party after the elections. Eddington Mugova has been appointed party leader.

Addressing a press briefing in Harare, Mugova accused Mariyacha of dumping the party even before the election results were announced. He said:

Given our unsatisfactory performances during the 2018 elections due to various challenges, the national executive committee could not exonerate the then-president Violet Mariyacha and her appointee Patrick Mugadza.

She disappeared from the political scene before election results were announced and went back abroad. This resulted in the NEC appointing Eddington Makono Mugova, as party interim president until congress.

We realised that individuals quickly jumped to POLAD meetings for personal benefits, not national interests.

Reading from a prepared speech, Mugova added that the UDM was undergoing a restructuring exercise across the country.
