Doctors Receive Death Threats For Planning Strike

Doctors at public health institutions have vowed to press ahead with planned strike action on Tuesday, 3 September 2019 despite death threats from suspected state security agents.

One of the doctors who was allegedly threatened with death spoke to The Standard. The doctor had this to say:

They are threatening to kill us and we have been called several times to accept the offer they are extending to us as a salary increment although it is actually a meagre stipend.

The government offered doctors a 60% cushioning allowance which they rejected out of hand.

On 30 August 2019, ZHDA notified the Health Services Board (HSB), permanent secretary for the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Agnes Mahomva and the Minister of Health Obadiah Moyo of their imminent incapacitation.
