ZERA Licenses Schweppes To Generate Own Electricity

Schweppes Zimbabwe has been licensed to produce its own electricity by the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority. The beverage company will generate electricity using solar. The license is for 25 years.

Said Schweppes in a public notice:

The licence will enable Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited to construct, own, operate and maintain a 1MW Schweppes Solar Plant, which will be located at 67a Woolwich Road, Southerton, Harare.

A few weeks ago, Schweppes started installing a roof-mount solar system to power its operations, with the help of DPA Africa.

Zimbabwe is currently in a power crisis with load shedding of up to 16 hours a day. The crisis was caused by a number of things – short term causes include the 2018-2019 drought and the long term reasons include the lack of planning to increase the country’s power generation.
