Peter Ndlovu Confirms That Nakamba Will Have Statue Erected In His Honour

A statue is set to be erected in Hwange in honour of Warriors and Aston Villa midfielder, Marvelous Nakamba.

Nakamba became the fourth Zimbabwean footballer to sign for an English Premier League club after moving from Belgian club, Club Brugge to Aston Villa for a reported £12 million fee.

The other three former Warriors players to feature for English clubs are Bruce Grobbelaar, Peter Ndlovu and Benjani Mwaruwari.

Zimbabwean legend, Peter Ndlovu, who also hails from Matabeleland North province told The Athletic that chiefs in Hwange, the town where Nakamba was born, are mulling plans to build the statue. He said:

Marvelous knows that we are recognising his hard work with this idea and hopefully the statue will be a confidence booster for him.

Moving to Aston Villa is an unbelievable achievement for him and we must show our support as a nation.

The people of Hwange recognise their heroes and while the exact details are yet to be finalised, discussions are taking place to decide what happens next.

Nakamba made his debut for Aston Villa on Tuesday night in a 6-1 win over Crewe Alexander in the EFL Cup.
