MDC Reaches Out To Former Member Ahead Of By-Election

Opposition MDC has reached out to its former member and veteran politician, Grandmore Hakata, ahead of the Glenview South by-election.

Hakata was standing as an independent candidate since his departure from the party.

MDC Harare provincial chairperson, Wellington Chikombo, said that the return of Hakata is a huge boost for the party. Chikombo said:

In the previous election, Grandmore Hakata got over 3 000 votes as an independent. In my capacity as the chairperson of Harare, I said to him, ‘please come home’ and he came home. As I speak right now, I am with him and we are doing door-to-door campaigns canvassing support for Vincent so that we win resoundingly on September 7, 2019.

With Hakata in the camp, all cylinders are operating at full throttle. Victory is certain for the MDC and, in fact, Glen View is going to stand as a litmus test for Mnangagwa’s government.

Chikombo believes that the unencouraging state of affairs will have an adverse impact on the ruling ZANU PF candidate.

So far, ZANU PF has won the majority of by-elections held nationwide including in some MDC strongholds such as Bulawayo.

The MDC candidate, Vincent, is the son of the late former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai.

He will be contesting with ZANU PF’s candidate Orphard Muchuwe and several other candidates for a seat left vacant after the death of his sister Vimbai-Java who succumbed to accident injuries.
