ZESA Adds 160MW Following Hwange Thermal Power Station Unit 5 Refurbishment

Zimbabwe’s power utility company has added 160 megawatts of power to the national grid following the completion of refurbishment at Hwange thermal.

Minister of Energy and Power Development Advocate Fortune Chasi told ZBC today that refurbishment of Unit 6 at the same power station is starting the first week of September and it ill unlock an additional 170 megawatts to augment generation.

The Hwange Thermal Power Station is the biggest power plant in Zimbabwe with an installed capacity of 920 MW.

It is not clear how much impact the additional 160mw will have on the ongoing load shedding in the country.

Chasi encouraged consumers to pay their bills.

  1. Why are we encouraging people to pay ???????? Use the courts to arrest defaulters ……why are we all being punished due to bad management

  2. It will make no difference because the evil capitalist MaBritish will sabotage. Yes and there must be collective punishment as a result of defaulters and stingy people, heh, heh. That is the system.

  3. Surely by now RBZ should have been forced to pay MOZ so that supply of elec can resume ?… has chasi been rendered powerless or like min of fin … not interested ?
