Presidential Advisor Demands An End To The "Unprecedented" Abductions & Torture Of Citizens

Shingi Munyeza, an entrepreneur and cleric, has demanded that the abductions, beatings and torture that have been reported over the past few weeks should stop.

Munyeza is a member of the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC) and is a high profile individual who has expressed his total disgust and alarm over the abductions which he says are unprecedented. Writing on microblogging site Twitter Munyeza wrote:

ABDUCTIONS, BEATINGS AND TORTURE MUST STOP

1.I’m totally disgusted and alarmed by an unprecedented trend of abductions in our country
2. It’s worrying that the State has not come up with a position on stopping this
3. The State must protect its citizens and culprits brought to book.

There has been a spike in reports of individuals who have been abducted and tortured by masked gunmen in the dead of the night over the past few weeks.

Among the victims are president of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), Obert Masaraure, a human rights activist, Tatenda Mombeyarara, several MDC activists, and last night, Bus Stop TV satirist, Samantha Kureya was abducted and tortured.

The government has blamed what it calls a “Third Force” for the abductions and torture.
