Eskom Denies Switching Off Zimbabwe As Power Cuts Worsen

South Africa’s power utility, Eskom said that it has nothing to do with increased load-shedding being experienced in Zimbabwe.

Eskom said that it is supplying the 400MW electricity to Zimbabwe as agreed.

Zimbabweans experienced some respite from power cuts soon after the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays after ZESA announced that it was reverting to the Stage 1 load shedding regime as it was receiving additional power from South Africa.

However, power cuts of longer duration are being experienced again with some consumers questioning Eskom’s sincerity.

In response to enquiries from South African publication Fin24, Eskom said it is not responsible for the power cuts. It said:

Latest Tecno Pop 8 - now available in Pindula.

$94, Cash on Delivery in Harare & Bulawayo.

WhatsApp: 0783 450 793

Kindly direct your query to ZESA. We have been supplying power as per their requirements up to a maximum of 400MW.

Despite complaints from citizens, the government of Zimbabwe announced on Twitter on Tuesday that the power situation has improved. The statement read:

#PostCabinetBrief The power supply situation has significantly improved on account of power imports from ESKOM. Minister @fortunechasi will soon meet his Mozambican counterpart for negotiations relating to additional power imports from HCB of Mozambique.
