"Everybody Has The right To Demonstrate, But, Public Safety Issues Come First"

Foreign Affairs Minister, Sibusiso Moyo, has said that bans on opposition MDC demonstrations were influenced by a consideration of public safety.

Moyo observed that while it was everybody’s Constitutional right to demonstrate, the right had to be suspended for a superior right.

The former army boss told VOA Studio7 that he supported both the police and court orders which banned the protests.

Moyo’s remarks come at a time when the government has since blocked three MDC demonstrations scheduled for Harare, Bulawayo and Gweru.

The MDC has said that although it expects that the “captured” courts would give a verdict upholding the prohibition orders, the party was determined on exhausting all democratic avenues.
