MDC Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende Appears Before The Court Over Alleged Subversion
Opposition MDC Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende has appeared before Harare Magistrate court on Monday morning facing subversion charges.
Hwende was further remanded to the 16th October 2019.
Hwende was arrested in March aboard an Air Namibia plane that had just landed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe international airport.
He has been out of prison on bail which barred him from addressing public gatherings and using social media. He was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court’s registry and to report to the police twice every week.
It is the State’s case that Hwende played a big role in the January 2019 Stay Aways which degenerated into chaos.

The shutdown had been organised by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions over a nicodemous increase of fuel prices.
A number of properties were destroyed during the shutdown. The State unleashed security personnel who reportedly abducted, tortured, shot and sexually abused civilians in their homes.
