“We’ve Been Tolerant and Forgiving, We Can’t Take It Anymore” – Eddie Cross

Economic expert and former MDC legislator for Bulawayo South, Eddie Graham Cross has said that the nation was now tired of forgiving the government of is wrongdoings.

Cross said that the nation did not deserve the deplorable state of affairs prevailing in the country.

He attributed the citizenry’s predicament to the conduct of the elites. He noted that government officials:

  • Looted diamonds from Marange.
  • Presided over the Matebeleland massacres known as Gukurahundi.
  • Preside over the poor public transport system which is now saturated with second-hand commuter omnibuses.
  • Awarded themselves with residential stands which they develop using stolen taxpayers’ money.

Cross also lamented over poor service delivery in towns where water provision and garbage collection were intermittent. In addition to that he bemoaned:

  • Poor road infrastructure
  • High prices of medicines
  • Paltry salaries
  • Soaring inflation
  • Electricity deficit
  • Lack of remorse by government officials who lead luxurious lives
  • Abuse of power: traditional leaders used to abuse people
  • Failure to address the issues that can be easily fixed
  • Failed agriculture system even after the land reform programme

Cross says that when the masses have shown resilience which the government misinterpreted as acceptance.

He said that the demise of former president Robert Mugabe should have been a lesson for all that even great leaders will fall if they do not respect their own people.

He recommended that the government uproot corruption which has crippled all sectors of the economy. Cross also recommended that the government put market-based policies for the economy to thrive.
