The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has confirmed reports that its officers approached former vice president Phelekezela Mphoko at his residence over criminal abuse of office allegations.
The alleged crimes are believed to have been committed during his tenure as the vice president. Posting on Twitter, ZACC said:
Yesterday our officers visited the former VP Phelekezela Mphoko at his residence. The officers intended to question him with a view to record a warned and cautioned statement. The matter relates to abuse of office whilst he was VP.
It is sad that the former VP refused to collaborate with the enforcement officers and unfortunate that he and those around him believe that they are above the law.
As the chairperson @matandamoyo has reiterated time and again, no one is above the law. We will ensure that the long arm of the law visits him in a manner that he understands and that he answers for his actions ASAP.
Reports suggest that officials from ZACC tried to arrest the former Vice President at his Bulawayo home on Friday afternoon.
Mphoko allegedly ordered the officials to leave his house
ZACC was recently given arresting powers after analysts criticised it for being toothless.
This mphoko has just sealed his bail-refusal fate by refusing to cooperate in tbe first instance. He will rot in remand lime mupfumira
Zanu pf is like a carcass of dead cow that died of anthrax or quarterly and you say the other part is good for human consumption. Its all infected.
Mphoko will walk free with the other thieves
