Kwekwe Poly Students Demonstrate During A Graduation Ceremony

Students at Kwekwe Poly staged a demo against their principal right in the middle of a graduation ceremony last week. NewsdzeZimbabwe wrote that at least 3 of them were arrested as riot police descended on the protestors and most of them managed to escape.

The students were reportedly demonstrating against the manner in which the exams had been held at their college by the principle. Some of the students who spoke to journalists said:

The reason why students are protesting is because the majority of them are not graduating today because the principal decided to withhold results, saying there was a lot of cheating during the examinations.

Mr Musara the Poly Principal who the students were protesting against said the matter the protestors wanted to be addressed was already in court and there was nothing that could be done.

The matter involving the students who were caught cheating is before the courts and is beyond our control.

It’s unfortunate, however, that there are some unruly elements who want to ride on that and tarnish the image of the institution.

Since the matter is now in the hands of the police, I cannot comment any further and wait for the law to take its course.
