President Mnangagwa Set To Appoint 8 High Court Judges

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to appoint eight judges to the High Court bench after the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) submitted names of candidates who passed interviews that were conducted recently.

The JSC submitted 10 names who performed well while more than 16 candidates took part in the public interviews conducted early last month.

This was revealed by JSC secretary Justice Walter Chikwanha. He said:

The JSC has submitted a list of qualifying candidates to the President in terms of the law.

The High Court is understaffed, and the situation was made worse following the elevation of Justices Nicholas Mathonsi and Charles Hungwe to the Supreme Court.

President Mnangagwa has the prerogative to choose eight names from the list submitted by the JSC.

If he considers that the nominees are not suitable for the appointment, he must require the JSC to submit a further list of qualified candidates.
