ZTA Board Chair Resigns Citing Bad Governance By CEO

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Board Chairman and Director, Mr Osbourne Majuru, has resigned with immediate effect citing interference and bad governance by the Acting Chief Executive Officer.

Majuru revealed in his resignation letter dated 12 July 2019 to the Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Priscah Mupfumira, currently in jail, that ZTA Acting CEO, Ms Rita Likukuma had effectively rendered the board ineffective.

Mr Majuru also alleges that Likukuma was no longer reporting to the board as she was now reporting directly to the Minister. He also noted that, contrary to the dictates of the ZTA Act, it was now the board that was reporting to the CEO.

The letter also reveals that the Lukukuma has been interfering with the recruitment and retrenchment of workers resulting in an unprocedural laying off of some workers.
