ZIMRA Impounds Two Kwekwe City Council Ambulances Donated By ZANU PF Legislator

Zimbabwe Revenue Authority has impounded two ambulances belonging to Kwekwe city council over suspected illegal importation.

The ambulances were imported by former Mbizo legislator (ZANU PF), Vongaishe Mpereri.

The Herald reports that ZIMRA is investigating how the ambulances were imported into the country.

Meanwhile, Mpereri has claimed that the ambulances were bought using the Community Development Fund. He said:

We bought the ambulances in South Africa using the CDF funds, so the officers have questions on the clearance of the vehicles.

But I am told that the investigations are almost complete and the vehicles will be returned to council in a few days. We are not there to block the authorities from carrying out their duties.

Recently, it was revealed that former Director State Residences in the Office of the President and Cabinet Douglas Tapfuma imported more than 80 double cab Isuzu vehicles duty-free.

This was revealed after the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission had arrested him over criminal abuse of office.
