ZACC Puts ZANU PF Youth League In Its Place

The Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission (ZACC) has warned the ZANU PF Youth League to desist from accusing some individuals of being engaged in corruption without providing evidence.

ZACC Chairperson, Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo, who was appointed to lead the reconfigured anti-graft body, is quoted as saying:

It is not about tarnishing people’s names. If you don’t have evidence against anyone there is no reason for a press statement and then list people as corrupt.

As Zacc, we do not support that. We actually call upon everyone who has allegations to report the matter for proper investigation and not to do so at a press conference.

We have called those people to come forward with the evidence they have but they have not come forward with the evidence and if they continue we will be forced to take action as Zacc.

Meanwhile, Zanu PF youth league deputy secretary Lewis Matutu, who has been the face of the ruling party’s anti-corruption crusade, said:

We don’t have a problem with her (Matanda-Moyo). We understand what she is saying; she is saying that there should be due process and we accept that.

We appreciate what she is saying and we are going to comply with what she said, we are not going to name and shame anymore because we don’t want to jeopardise their job.

We are going to sit down with them and share notes, the reason why we didn’t go with evidence to Zacc was that we didn’t want to jump the gun and given the situation it is now inevitable that we approach Zacc and give them what we have, we are willing to support them.
