“Some Will Tell Us They Fought In The War. We Say Thank You…” – ZANU PF Youths

Zanu-PF deputy secretary for Youth Affairs and Politburo member, Lewis Matutu, has warned political elites who engage in underhand dealings saying that they will not have the protection they mistakenly think they will get.

Speaking at Mutare Polytechnic College where he was delivering a public lecture on the “Role of students in national governance and promotion of vision 2030”, Matutu said that corruption will never be tolerated no matter the social status of the accused person.

He added that the country was bleeding as a result of corrupt people who were looting national resources for personal use. He made reference to some unnamed political heavyweights who raided medical institutions for medicines which they would resell in their own pharmacies. Matutu said:

No one is more equal than the other. Nyaya ye Animal Farm haichashanda in our generation. Some will tell us that they fought in the war. We say thank you for doing a great job but you are not the only ones who fought.

His remarks come at a time when reports suggest that some ZANU PF bigwigs were plotting to counter president Mnangagwa’s anti-corruption drive. They allegedly say that the president has sold out by targetting them. They expected protection since they played a critical role in his ascension to power in 2017.

Opposition political parties and some analysts have always claimed that the country’s economy is at its knees because of corruption and maladministration by the ruling ZANU PF. Recently, Mnangagwa said that corruption was scaring away investors.
