Dynamos coach, Tonderai Ndiraya said that the club is not in the title race after wobbling at the start of the season during the reign of Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe.
Ndiraya took over the reins just four games into the 2019 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season after the club was serving its fans lifeless performances.
Speaking after a hard-fought 1-0 over Harare City at the weekend, Ndiraya declared that the Glamour Boys still needed to fix a few things before they can talk of the title. He said:
We have strong teams, who are really doing well and I don’t want to put my players under so much pressure to challenge for the league title.
We have problems we need to fix then we can start talking about other things but at the moment I think we are far behind from the championship.
Ndiraya, was, however, satisfied with the performance put by his charges. He expressed confidence that they will reduce the gap from the top teams. He added:
I’m quite satisfied with the progress made by the players. Look, this is a team which is still under reconstruction and it will continue hoping that in the next two to three weeks the new players would have gained some respectable fitness and compete for the entire 90 minutes.
It’s still work in progress, we keep working hard, and we keep working with the new guys.
Our target is a restoration to where Dynamos is supposed to be, where it belongs.
That’s the most important thing. I think we have become a laughing stoke, we had fallen far, far behind the top teams.
We are a big team obviously in terms of stature but in terms of performance, we have been far behind and I’m slowly seeing that gap being closed.
And in the next few weeks, I expect the team to compete and further close the gap between us and the top teams.
With the victory over Harare City, Dynamos moved to 7th on the log with 23 points while log leaders FC Platinum, who lost 1-0 to Black Rhinos at the weekend, are on 31 points.
