Zimbabwe Football Association is reportedly seeking to sign foreign coaches to fill the vacuum by Sunday Chidzambga who tendered his resignation letter recently.
An informed source who spoke to the News Day said that two European coaches and one who is coaching a top club in South Africa have so far been identified. The source said:
The issue of the Warriors coaches was one of those that were discussed at the board meeting last week. There are three coaches that have been identified and negotiations have started. The good thing is that they have all shown interest in the job,” the source said.
The board want a coach who will be independent because there is a general feeling that most local coaches are poisoned. They want a coach who will select his squad and do his job without undue influence from outside forces.
The News Day reports that there were some ZIFA members who wanted FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza to takeover but could not persist after considering that his availability will be limited. FC Platinum is participating in the CAF Champions League.
Meanwhile, ZBC News reported on Monday night that Norman Mapeza, Charles Mhlauri, Lloyd Chitembwe and Joey Antipas are tipped to land the post. It further suggests that Mhlauri is considered the favourite to land the job.
The Warriors are currently under the leadership of Rahman Gumbo who was elevated following the resignation of Chidzambga ahead of CHAN games.
