Seke Teachers' College Lecturers Decry Misappropriation Of Allowances

Lecturers at Seke Teachers’ College accuse the institution’s bosses of misappropriating lecturers’ travel and subsistence allowance since May 2019.

Concerned lecturers told H-Metro that they are supposed to get ZWL$30.00 each per day for travel and subsistence allowance but they have not been paid in recent months.

One of the lecturers who spoke to the publication said:

We are supposed to be having RTGS $30 per day for our travel and subsistence allowance but we’re are not getting any since May this year.

The accounts department tells us that they have transacted our monies into our bank accounts but when we visit the banks there will be nothing. Something dodgy is happening with the accounts department staff.

The principal of Seke Teachers College, Newton Ephraim Mutubuki said that he was not aware of the allegations. He promised H-Metro that he will make a follow up on the issue. Said Mutubuki:

This is strange news to me. I really am not aware that this is happening because I was on sick leave. I wonder who told you about that but I’m now making a follow up on the issue and will get back to you.

Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Amon Murwira chided the lecturers for not using the proper channels in airing their grievances. He added that he will only intervene if the matter goes out of hand.
