We'll Have Some Other Exciting Things For The Gems - Kirsty Coventry

Minister of Sports, Kirsty Coventry, has assured the Zimbabwe netball team, the Gems, that late and uncoordinated payment of allowances will not happen again.

The former world swimming record holder added that the government was working to make sure that the gems who had a splendid performance in their debut world cup appearance are appreciated appropriately.

Speaking to the Gems at a breakfast meeting held in their honour Harare Thursday, Kirsty said:

We are working on being able to present something to you to show you our appreciation that will be coming in the next few weeks.

We will have some other exciting things to make sure that we show you our gratitude and appreciation for all your hard work.

Coventry added that professionalism will prevail in the future management of the sport. She added that there will be proper communication through the Sports Recreation Commission (SRC), through the board and through the national federation.

She also indicated the need to put events in a timely manner so that the required resources would be mobilised in time.

Her remarks come after reports suggesting that the Gems were not happy with the allowances they received for participating at the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup in Liverpool.

The Gems said reportedly said that the tournament was a lesson for them as in the future they will not participate without seeing their contracts first.
