MDC Waits On Govt Money To Pay Laid-Off Workers

The MDC-led by Nelson Chamisa is waiting on its share from the Political Parties Finance Act to be able to pay its 145 retrenched workers.

MDC and ZANU PF will share a total of ZWL$12 million in proportion to the number of seats each party hold in Parliament.

Reports indicate that the MDC is virtually broke. A former employee who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com said:

We hear that the party does not have money to give us at the moment.

We are just waiting despite there being no communication from the party concerning the situation they have put us in.

There is still a huge obligation that the party must meet because retrenched workers are now languishing in poverty.

MDC secretary-general, Chalton Hwende recently accused ZANU PF of abusing the Political Parties Finance Act to cripple the MDC by refusing to disburse the funds. Said Hwende:

The Political Parties Finance Act is being abused by ZANU PF to ensure that the MDC is financially crippled.

We can’t fundraise and receive money from outside and the Minister of Finance Mthuli Ncube has not disbursed any cent from the Budgeted funds to the MDC since April 2018.
